Guatemala ::Personal::

Sometimes you just need to get on a plane and leave the country. You know? So when Katharine (friend and travel guide extraordinaire) invited me to visit her in Guatemala, I booked the ticket as soon as I could.

In a country known for it's vibrant colors and gentle people you would think I would have had a lot to photograph. But the funny thing is, as much as I love to travel, and as much as I love photography, I don't actually make a good travel photographer. Perhaps it is because I have an aversion to being a "tourist;" or because I sometimes prefer to experience people and places first-hand instead of through my lens; or maybe because I didn't bring my camera and inadvertently left Andrew's in the plane...but whatever the reason I just didn't get much that captures the essence of Guatemala.

Here, however, are a few shots from our adventures - stolen with Katharine's point-and-shoot (thanks K!)
Love the bright orange against the stone
Flowers growing among cathedral ruins? Yes please.
We hiked up to a lot of crosses on hilltops
Overlooking Lake Atitlan and San Juan
More crosses
